Sadler’s and the Peaky Blinder Gang
Sadler’s Brewing Co was founded in 1861 by Nathaniel Sadler and later expanded by Thomas Alexander Sadler, the brewery supplied its twelve public houses.
The Peaky Blinders were an urban street gang based in Birmingham, that operated from the end of the 19th century until the start of First World War. The group, which grew out the harsh economic deprivations of working class Britain, was composed largely of young unemployed men. They derived social power from robbery, violence, political influence and the control of gambling.
Active from 1861 members of the Peaky Blinders gang would have undoubtedly visited Sadler’s pubs & establishments.
